We introduced Sebastien Treuillet’s glorious Pouilly Fumé (100% sauvignon blanc from the finest part of France’s Loire Valley) with the 2013 vintage. This beautiful white was grown in top estate vineyards in Tracy-Sur-Loire, a sought-after part of Pouilly Fumé and an area that many experts consider among the finest places in the world to grow sauvignon blanc. Our sale on the 2013 was the very first time this aromatic, silky, and intensely flavorful wine from Sebastien Treuillet was offered in the mid-Atlantic region. It was the finest Pouilly Fumé we’d seen from the 2013 vintage.

Today we have the fabulous 2016 vintage. Not only is it a better vintage across the region, it’s clearly a better, more fragrant, more concentrated, more elegant wine. And our best sale price is actually lower than it was for that 2013 vintage! This is a sauvignon blanc deal to stock up on! It can keep in the cellar for at least five years. It’s also excellent to drink right away. Enjoy it with your finest seafood meals or serve it at your wedding or graduation parties. Stock the fridge or outfit the beach house. You can again save over 32% if you call soon and stock up on this amazing white wine.

Our best (case) sale price is the lowest ever for this wine, just $16.99 per bottle. This price should be of particular interest to you if you’ve ever bought a sauvignon blanc wine from New Zealand or California or Sancerre in the $20-$30 range. This is almost sure to have more concentration and complexity, with silky texture great length. Spend less and get better wine!

This estate, run by vintner Sebastien Treuillet, has been winning glories galore and plaudits aplenty in France. But production is so small that the wines are rarely seen in the U.S. and we’ve never found reviews in any American publication. The first vintage ever enjoyed in our region was the 2013. If you’re lucky enough to still have any of that excellent 2013 (or the 2014 or 2015 that came later) try a bottle today. You’ll be thrilled to see that one of the best whites of the vintage is only getting better with another year in the bottle– it’s a stunner.

About the 2016 vintage in Pouilly Fumé:

And now we have the sensational 2016 Treuillet Pouilly Fumé. 2016 is a wonderful vintage across the Loire (for quality). Yields are very low due to a late frost that drastically limited the number of clusters that vines could produce. Perfect weather late in the growing season made the vintage, though. The results were characterized in the Wine Enthusiast as “concentrated grapes and good aromatic expression.” At Treuillet the combination of low natural yields, plenty of sun (for ripeness) and excellent harvest conditions, meant that his wines are gorgeously aromatic, flavorful and textured.

About Domaine Sebastien Treuillet:

Sebastien Treuillet got his start in the wine business when he began working for a winemaker friend in Sancerre at just 15 years of age. He discovered he had a true passion (and talent) for winemaking and began dreaming of running his own wine estate. After working at other wineries for a number of years, he achieved his dream and founded Domaine Treuillet in 1991. Since then he’s been working on slowly and gradually improving the estate in every possible way. Located in the village of Fontenille, adjacent to Tracy-sur-Loire and about 7 km from Pouilly-sur-Loire, this estate crafts truly excellent Pouilly-Fumé from 100% sauvignon blanc grown in excellent hillside vineyards around Fontenille. Sebastien has a number of different parcels on different soils including argile-kimmeridgean, sand, and some limestone-dominated “caillottes” soil. Sébastien employs a number of innovative techniques in his vineyards (including special vine-training and pruning) to ensure yields are kept very low and quality very high.

Sebastien makes full-flavored, intense, and elegantly balanced Pouilly Fumé from his various parcels. Here are just some of the awards this estate Pouilly Fume has won in recent vintages: Gold Medal (Angers), Silver Medal (Paris), Silver Medal (Independent Winemakers) and Silver Medal (Decanter).

More recent vintages have really gotten some top recognition: His 2014 Sebastien Treuillet Pouilly Fumé won the Concours Mondial du Sauvignon 2015  (“World Sauvignon Competition 2015”) Special Trophy for the Best Unoaked Sauvignon Blanc in the World!  And the excellent 2015 vintage was selected as one of only 12 Pouilly Fumés to medal at the 2016 Concours Général Agricole de Paris. One other interesting recent honor for Sebastien is that he’s been pursued by British airways for several years and he’s finally agreed to supply them with some wine! It means that if you travel First or Business Class on British Airways, you’ll have a chance to enjoy his Pouilly Fumé! (But remember, ordering a case from Arrowine costs far less than a First Class ticket on British Airways!)

Here’s how the excellent 2016 Pouilly Fumé tastes:

Pale lemon pulp colored, this splendid Pouilly Fumé has classic Pouilly Fumé aromas of lime-peel citrus, white flowers, flint rock, and green apple skin. The rich, vivid and long lasting palate combines fresh nectarine, citrus, and white currants with a hint of white pepper spice and distinct flinty minerals. This is long, pure and beautiful poised, with a mouthwatering finish, excellent definition, and classic balance. This is reference point sauvignon. Drink it any time over the next 3-5 years with your favorite richly flavored seafood dish, from bacon-wrapped scallops to mussels in cream sauce to a grilled halibut steak. It will stand up to a feast, but you can serve it with lighter fare too. At this price, you can use it at a wedding or graduation party or take a case on a beach trip.

Thank you for taking the time to read about this excellent Pouilly Fumé.
