About Claudie Jobard:

Claudie Jobard is a legitimate superstar. She was born and raised to be a great wine-maker and has shown prodigal talent too. Claudie’s mother is renowned winemaker Laurence Jobard, who made the wines that made Domaine Drouhin famous. Claudie’s father ran a top Burgundy vine nursery located in Rully in Burgundy’s Côte Chalonnaise. He helped in planting countless prestigious Burgundy vineyards. Claudie now makes wines for some of our favorite estates in Burgundy. She’s so talented that she was recently selected to the prestigious, high-profile position of head winemaker for the revered Maison Remoissenet of Beaune.

It means she was selected over some of the world’s most accomplished winemakers to make Grand Crus worth hundreds per bottle. That job isn’t trusted to just any winemaker; it’s awarded to someone that can add real value. Some of our favorite Burgundies of all, though, are the great Burgundies that Claudie Jobard makes for two tiny, less-heralded, less-expensive family owned properties.

One is Domaine Gabriel Billard, her grandparents property and a longtime Arrowine favorite. The other is her own small family-run eponymous estate winery, Domaine Claudie Jobard. This is the estate where she made the gorgeous wine you can order today. Located in Demigny (just east of Puligny Montrachet and northeast of Rully) Domaine Claudie Jobard makes wines from great vineyards (some planted by her father) in the Côte Chalonnaise. Our customers snapped up this estate’s Rully red from the “La Chaume” Vineyard in the 2014 vintage. That 2014 is a terrific wine that’s still improving. But this terrific 2015 is at another level. You need to try this red Burgundy!

About this wine:

This red Burgundy that comes from a small plot of 40+ year old vines named “La Chaume”.

This brilliant and distinctive red Burgundy comes from a single plot in a top vineyard of old vines in southern Rully (average vine age is over 44 years, some vines are over 50 years of age.). This great vineyard, between Bouzeron and Mercurey, is in a privileged part of the Rully appellation. It is on a south-east facing slope with stony limestone-rich clay soils like in Burgundy’s most prestigious locations. Yields are far lower than other producers in the area. Harvest is 100% by hand and the fruit is rigorously sorted so only perfect berries are used.

In the cellar, there is a pre-fermentation cold soak for several days prior to the slow temperature- controlled fermentation. Extraction by “punch down” and “pump over” is managed by Claudie Jobard by taste, barrel by barrel. It gives this affordable wine the personal touch of a master. Maceration lasts two to three weeks at controlled temperatures. The new wine is then gently pressed into French oak barrels for aging, about 20% is new.Domaine Gabriel Billard Grapes

About the 2015 vintage in Burgundy:

The word is out about the magnificent 2015 vintage in Burgundy. It’s a top vintage of wines that are already exceptional yet promise to age gracefully.

The critics have spoken. They seem to be trying to outdo each other in praising the Burgundy wines from the remarkable 2015 vintage. Arrowine’s Burgundy insider, Doug Rosen, was recently in Burgundy to evaluate the wines. Here are his thoughts:

“It’s not hype. It’s all true. The 2015s are the most complete, lush and forward reds from Burgundy I’ve ever tasted. They’re so precocious and utterly delicious they’ll be hard to resist on release. But don’t let the opulent fruit fool you; they’ll keep too. And they won’t close down like the 2005s. They have the upfront fruit of Oregon’s finest combined with the lacy, filigreed minerality that only comes from Burgundy. Wow! Take out a second mortgage and load up!” Doug Rosen, Arrowine

Allen Meadows of Burghound.com has written extensively about the great 2015 vintage. If you’re a Burgundy enthusiast, I encourage you to subscribe and read all he has to say. Here’s just a small part of what he wrote (which mentions how good the vintage is even for value-priced Burgundies):

“2015 – A Great Vintage, Indeed the Greatest Since the Legendary 2005 …Hot and dry worked in 2015 because it is a genuinely great vintage and it’s a great vintage from top to bottom. In fact, in all my years of visiting Burgundy I have never seen a better vintage for wines at the bottom of the appellation hierarchy. To be sure, it’s great at the top as well but if ever there was a vintage to explore for value, it’s this one. I have never listed so many Top Value choices in the 17 years that I have been publishing Burghound and I was more severe than usual in my choices!…” Allen Meadows, Burghound.com #65, Jan. 2017.

If you want a gorgeous 2015 red Burgundy at a great price, load up on this single- vineyard 2015 Rully from superstar Claudie Jobard. Our E-mail Sale means you can get it for as little as $22.99 per bottle. You’re going to love this wine!

Here’s how it tastes:

The 2015 Rully “La Chaume” from Claudie Jobard has bright ruby red color. It is ripe and expressive Rully with red fruit aromas of baking cherries and raspberries, as well as delicate floral and spice notes. The palate has fresh ripe red fruit and builds in richness as it airs adding a darker blackberry note. The finish is pure, rich and vibrant with long lasting silky-textured red fruit and spice. This energetic red is delicious today. The concentration and balance suggest it will drink beautifully until it is seven or eight years old. Serve this rich and vibrant red with game birds in morel sauce, with mustard-glazed pork tenderloin, or with a juicy rotisserie chicken.
